Tidal turbine at the Vlissingen locks
Twice a day the water flows back and forth through the culvert next to the locks in Vlissingen. Water2Energy Projects is building an improved tidal turbine there that turns that flow into electricity. The project runs through the European programme Interreg Offshore For Sure.

What is new about it
The turbine gets a special form of blade control. Because the blades are always in the most favourable position, the yield increases considerably. The structure has also been improved on a number of points.
What the project is about
The heart of this project is showing that it works: that the turbine is feasible in this spot and delivers what is expected of it.
What it builds on
In an earlier project, other forms of blade control and construction were tested. That experience has been built into this design. The technology has now come far enough to prove itself in practice.
What it brings Zeeland
The electricity generated is intended for the province and other parties that buy energy. For the region it means work, among others at the companies the work is contracted out to. Exactly how much it saves in CO2 emissions is something this project still has to show.
Images of this activity
We have tested various forms of blade control before. That experience now sits in a turbine that is ready to prove itself in practice.

Testing and demonstrating inspection drones
Terra Inspectioneering builds drones that inspect storage tanks, chimneys and bridges from the inside, so nobody has to climb to height. In the development and demo space at KAAP they test new technology, show it to clients and train their pilots.
