A living lab for energy
In the Living Lab Energy, innovative energy solutions are not tested on paper but for real. From smart charging systems to battery storage and local energy grids: companies bring their technology to KAAP and build a full-scale set-up there.
Education and business in one place
The lab is deliberately not a closed research facility. Students from Scalda and HZ take part in real projects, while the companies testing there gain direct access to young talent.
Speeding up the transition
By bringing testing, education and entrepreneurship together, K.I.E.S. shortens the road from idea to application. What works here can then move into the neighbourhoods and business parks of Zeeland.

Tidal turbine at the Vlissingen locks
Water2Energy is building an improved tidal turbine at the culvert next to the Vlissingen locks, with blade control that raises the yield considerably.

Terra Inspectioneering builds drones that inspect storage tanks, chimneys and bridges from the inside, so nobody has to climb to height. In the development and demo space at KAAP they test new technology, show it to clients and train their pilots.
